AI Act and cultural websites: what changes from August 2026

From 2 August 2026, Article 50 transparency obligations under the EU AI Act start applying. For cultural organisations, museums, foundations and creative campaigns, transparency should become part of digital trust.

Review my AI use

This text is for general information only and is not legal advice. Each organisation should review its specific situation with legal counsel, especially when using AI to interact with users, generate content or publish synthetic images, audio, video or text.

What changes in August 2026

Article 50 introduces transparency obligations for certain AI systems. In practical terms, it aims to help people recognise when they are interacting with an AI system or exposed to certain artificially generated or manipulated content.

Areas to review

  • AI assistants, chatbots or systems that interact directly with visitors.
  • AI-generated or altered image, audio or video that may appear real.
  • Texts on matters of public interest, including culture, when produced or published with AI support.
  • Human review, editorial responsibility and internal traceability.

Why this matters for culture

Museums, foundations, galleries and festivals work with public trust, authorship, archive and context. AI transparency should be designed carefully so it does not break the aesthetic experience, while still giving visitors relevant information.
